Sascha AT Huth is an artist from Germany currently living in Chicago,IL. The practice is based on interventional gestures, mostly translated into objects, images and spaces. With a background in Industrial and Process studies from the University of the Arts in Berlin (DE), he is interested in economical procedures related to athletic structures and their social affects on society. Huth crafts his work by reclaiming recognisable items from the relentless cycle of consumption and production that characterises contemporary society.
Through the manipulation of found commodities, he conceptually explores the effects of acceleration—especially the influence of commercial consumption—on our psyche. He repurposes materials such as textiles, metals, machinery and elements from nature, stripping them of their original functions and reconfiguring them into new arrangements. By reducing the installations to their essentials, he allows the concept of emptiness to play a pivotal role, introducing an unsettling tension that accompanies this void. Huth’s works exist as assembled components, which the artist refers to as “material interventions.” The ideology of the practice is based on repetition, rehearsal, dedication and oscillates between industrialism and its associated vandalism.
Huth currently works and studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, supported by a DAAD stipend and a Visionary Scholar Award. Extended research visits have taken him to Copenhagen (DK), Zurich (CH), and Seoul (KR). Among others, he exhibited his work at König Galerie (DE), Kanya&Kage (DE), Salone Del Mobile (ITA), Geidai (JP) and Tatjana Pieters Gallery (BE). Huth was co-founder of the Berlin based studio ActeTM and is focused on his new project and artistic unification, AnexPTG.
